2012-Last New Year mankind will ever celebrate?

2012 has been predicted to be the year of the apocalypse (21 Dec 2012) according to the experts & scientists based on the Mayan Calendar data.

But does the Mayan calendar actually state the “END OF THE WORLD”?

No, it actually says the end of a cycle. Let’s first get a firsthand account of how Mayan calendar works.

Mayan Calendar starts in 3,114 BC and is divided approximately into 394 year periods known a Baktuns. Since 13 was a sacred and important number (phew! they didn’t know about unlucky 13), the 13^th Baktun ends on 21Dec 2012 ending a 5200 year cycle.Mayans were highly skilled astronomers & mathematicians. Their calendar system was based on the stars and was highly accurate and they could do complex and lengthy calculations at that time without the help of computers (!).They were so accurate that they could predict the position s of the stars thousands of years in advance.

Hinduism: According to the Hindus, the current age going on is Kali Yug or age of Vice. In ancient literatures it has been said that when these evil men will pose as kings and feed on human beings and destroy the good and the righteous, Kalki(literally meaning ‘eternity’ or ‘time’) will appear as the 10^th and final incarnation of Lord Vishnu and destroy all evil with His weapon. He will establish law and justice and mankind will begin to live a life without sorrow and sufferings and a Utopian society/age of Purity will be established. According to the prophecy” When the sun and the moon ,lunar asterism Tishya and the planet Jupiter comes in one line, the Satya Yug or Age of Purity will begin”.

Islam: Moslems believe that when the Last Judgement (al-Qiyamah) will occur the dead would resurrect; divine plan for creation would complete; judgement of soul would occur; the righteous would be rewarded with the pleasures of the Jannat(Heaven) while the Evil will be punished in Jahannam(Hell).

Another opinion is also there which states that Jesus, the son of Mary is a prophet o and messenger of God. At the time appointed by God He would return to earth and aid the Mahdi in destroying the Evil.

Christianity: In Christianity eschatology is an important part of study. Eschatology is composed of two Greek words meaning “last” and “study” i.e. “last study”. The most important concept regarding the Final Day is Armageddon i.e. the location where the battle during the “end times” would occur between the Messiah (most probably Jesus) and the Anti-Christ/Satan/devil/Demon and defeat it. The Satan would be put in the bottomless pit for 1000 years which is known as the Minnelial Age. On being released from the pit Satan would gather Gog and Magog from the four corners of the world. They will seize the ‘holy ones’ and the ‘beloved city’. God will rain fire from the Heaven and devour Gog and Magog. The Devil, hell, Death and all the bad things will be thrown in the Gehenna or Lake of Fire.

Other different line of belief also prevails.

Leaving aside these predictions, there are some genuine and scientifically supported facts that need to be worried about-

1.Solar Storms: Solar Storms are not an uncommon thing, but recently the rate has increased which is knocking off power grids and satellites. Scientists have found out that this will surge to its peak in 2012.

2.Man made Black Holes: The highest-energy particle accelerator Hadron Collider expected to start its first serious experiment in 2012 to provide us answers regarding some basic questions of physics and advancing the understanding of the deepest laws of nature. Scientists fear that during these experiments mini Black Holes are created which exists about a fraction of a second before collapsing, but if these Black Holes doesn’t collapse then it would devour the earth to the size of basket ball having super dense mass.

3.Super Volcano: The Yellowstone Natural Park in USA shown in the blockbuster disaster movie “2012”is a genuine threat, say scientists. This park sits atop the biggest volcano which erupts every 6,50,000 years or so and we are overdue for an explosion(2012 being the most likely).if the explosion occurs smoke and ash will block out the sun, plunging earth into an Ice Age that can last up to 15,000 years(!).

4.Shifting of the earth’s Magnetic Fields: The magnetic field of the earth protects us from the harmful radiation of the Sun. But these two magnetic poles have a habit of shifting every 7, 50,000 years or so and we are 30,000 years overdue. The rate at which these poles are shifting now has led scientists to believe that a pole-shift is round the corner. This will lead to disruption of the magnetic field exposing us to the radiation of the SUN. The result would be enough UV rays to burn and kill us.

5.Third World War: The way the political situations are changing over the globe and increasing threat of nuclear and biological weapons it is not unlikely that a Third World War(WW III) will erupt which will erase all humanity.

Now whatever happens, only time will tell but the word “Apocalypse” means “lifting of the veil” or “revelation”, it is also most likely that such truth will be exposed which will shake the conscience of mankind to the very core.
